So, recently I have run up against the 32k Limitation of the @UserNamesList function. It is causing me great problems.
I have users that are in about 4000 groups, and the group names are about 50 characters long.
These said users access a database and attempt to view documents having groups in Reader Name fields that they are members of, yet they are unable to see the document.
We have found it to be related to the number of groups they are in. If we take their name out of a bunch of groups.. Then the aforementioned documents are now visible to them.
Lovely..
I'm thinking I'm running up against the 30K limitation of the @UserNamesList function.
I am mostly wondering, after all these years of living w/the 64k limitation and the 32 k limitation, why is we still have this limitation.
Is it because of the Backward compatability issue? Or something else.
I believe it is very much over my Notes Geek Wanna Be pretty little head. But I would love to have you supper Smart Guys and Gals explain it to me.
Thanks.. I hope to hear from you..
I have searched, and I found the links to what the limitations are.. But being somewhat whistfully hopeful in pertending to be a geek, I want to know why.. But why daddy?
The times, they are a-changin....

Hi Betsy,
I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm guessing that what you're thinking is likely the answer. Have you tried calling in a ticket to Lotus Support? A company the size of yours must have unlimited support...
Anyway, I don't know if you remember, but I took your picture (you and Don McNally, actually) at LotuSphere this January. Would you like me to send you a copy? You can contact me at my e-mail address on my blog.
I hope I am not the only person who shuddered when reading that you have users in 4000 groups. It's the same reaction I have to people who run up against the 75 role limit in a database.
Maybe this is the motivation you need to rethink the way you are handling security and groups in your infrastructure. Just a thought.
